March 16, 2017 3M is to acquire personal protection equipment (PPE) manufacturer Scott Safety in a $2 billion deal.

Scott Safety products include self-contained breathing apparatus systems, gas and flame detection instruments, safety equipment and communication devices. The company reported annual revenues of around $570 million in 2016 and has about 1,500 employees worldwide.

3M said Scott Safety’s “well-regarded” products will broaden its own offering and enhance its relevance to customers worldwide.

The transaction is expected to close in the second half of the year, subject to regulatory approval.
